In your setTimeout function, this is the window. Try this instead:

            $this.hide("slow");
        }, time);
    });

Solution 2:

Alternatively, you can use the .delay() jquery function.

$('.content').each(function(){
    var time = $(this).attr("data-time")
    $(this).delay(time).hide("slow")
});
